The architecture design of the former residence of George Pasfield is a result of his visit to the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago – the greatest of all world's fairs. The fair revolutionized building styles creating a classical revival movement throughout America. When George Pasfield attended, he was so impressed with the style of classical architecture detail of the numerous state pavilions that he returned to Springfield and built his house unlike anyone of the time.

We'll point you to other historic homes available for tour in Springfield and may also coordinate a customized Springfield Historic Home tour for your group. The Springfield Historic Homes are as diverse a group as one might find in central or southern Illinois. Visitors who visit the Pasfield House may view a PBS television special on its architectural significance.

If you're not with a group you can join a Springfield Historic Homes Tour in progress (if room is available), regardless our staff will provide you with the Springfield Mass Transit tourist route schedule and help you plan a self-directed course to the other Springfield Historic Homes.

Pasfield House owner Tony Leone is often on site to tell the lesser-known Springfield stories – the stories of a town that grew from a settlement of squatters into a frontier Illinois county seat, and while ultimately became the seat of Illinois government. Springfield is where national political figures, pioneer industrialists, and socially conscience people made a permanent imprint on America.

Possibly the best place to start exploring Springfield, we think you'll be well versed by the time you leave the Pasfield House and venture out on your own to experience Mr. Lincoln's home town.
